About Playing in the Puddle

As a minister, when you preach a sermon or teach in a Local Church setting, often the group in front of you are the only ones who have the opportunity to engage with you. Through the wonders of modern technology, material produced to support the discipleship of Christians in a local congregation can be shared more widely. This site began as a series of teaching sessions to help church members at Central Methodist Church in Aston-cum-Aughton, and at Rawmarsh Methodist Church, both in the Rotherham and Dearne Valley Methodist Circuit, in South Yorkshire, United Kingdom. The idea was to help us engage more with the Bible, and to think through the main ideas in Christian Doctrine. Over time the hope is that more material, from a number of contributors can add to this site.

Why “Playing in the Puddle”?

Sean Adair, one of the ministers on the Circuit (1998-2013) came to serve in the British Methodist Church in 1998. In preparing for that transition from the Irish Methodist Connexion, many friends prayed and supported him. One person in particular, shared an inspired picture of Sean’s ministry being like a child playing and splashing about in a puddle, and inviting others to jump in the puddle with him. This sums up beautifully what Sean’s ministry has been about and offers a perspective for others to think around with regard to their own discipleship.

As the site begins its life, initially it contains two main sections. One on books of the Bible, resources gathered in 2011 during the Year of the Bible. The other section is on the Basics of Christian Belief which contains resources from the 2012-2013 year teaching series.

It is hoped that the site can expand as Sean and other members of staff on the Rotherham & Dearne Valley Circuit make further contributions.
